'Green' Appointments Needed!

Last year, Coastkeeper urged the Governor to make sound environmental appointments to the nine-member San Diego Regional Water Quality Board, which regulates sewage, stormwater and industrial discharges to our waters. Coastkeeper has been unsuccessful at getting the Governor’s staff to even meet with our proposed candidates, and the Board as it is currently constituted has shown a lack of leadership at safeguarding our coastal and inland waters. While we applaud the renewal of the municipal stormwater permit (though delayed by over a year), the failure to adopt cleanup plans for Chollas Creek, for contaminated sediment in San Diego Bay, and for bacteria pollution is emblematic of a lack of aggressive oversight and enforcement of clean water laws. After several recent resignations, the Board once again has three vacancies.
